Why does my business need a Website Care Plan?
Your Website Is Critical To Your Business
Your small business website is important, and like everything else you depends on, you need website maintenance. Your website generates leads, customers and revenue (or at least it should!). It’s what your customers, suppliers, potential new staff and partners will find, and what they’ll judge you on. The success of your business depends on your site being up and available for your audience 24/7 without interruption.
All Software Is Vulnerable
It’s an unfortunate fact of life in the current environment that websites get hacked and attacked. Consider that if some of the big names such as Twitter and Facebook are being subjected to attack, imagine how many small businesses are too on a daily basis. Behind your website is a software system, and therefore, like all software, it needs updating.
Do It Yourself Website Maintenance?
Can I do my website maintenance myself? Yes, absolutely! But while you’re spending time keeping your site up to date, backed up and secure, it takes you away from what you should be doing, i.e. running your small business, building relationships with your customers, staff & partners. Website software and technology evolves on an almost daily basis, and it can be difficult to keep on top of all the current trends and developments.
There are plenty of resources out there to help keep your website managed and up to date. However consider these people know nothing about your or your small business, and they probably provide support for thousands of customers every day. That means they have the experience, but it also means they might not be paying attention to the finer details of your particular website and business needs.
You send us clear instructions on the content you want to change on your website, and we make the changes for you as quickly as possible. We confirm to you when the work is done – usually by the next business day.
Typically text or image changes can be requested with your Content Updates time; changes that take us no more than 30 minutes to do. That is generally enough to cover most changes you need for the day-to-day operation of your site. For example adding a testimonial section to your site, or, indeed, updating your testimonial section with new feedback.
We do not include advances changes such as eCommerce or membership plugins, and you should contact us for further information if you are thinking of adding something like this to your site.
If your plan only includes Support Time, you can use this for any support you require for your site. Without Content Updates included though you are expected to update your content yourself using the Content Management System provided.
In the event of a major problem caused by a software upgrade, Support Time may be utilised to fix the problem.
Content Updates time can be used to ask us to make changes to your content for you. Where you have SEO included in your plan as well, we could potentially use Content Updates time to make tweaks to your site content to improve your Google rankings.
If support or content changes go over your monthly limited, there could be additional charges if you wanted the work done in the same month. We would discuss this with you first however before continuing with the changes. Support Time and Content Updates time do not roll over to the following month if unused.
For changes outside of your care plan time, we would quote for the work on a case-by-case basis. However, it depends on what you have in mind and why you need the extra hours. Sometimes we can be flexible and do the work as part of your time allowance. The best way to deal with the situation is to contact us and discuss the matter with us.
Email is great for support issues and content update requests. However to make sure your site is earning its keep, and we are both on the same page with your website goals, jumping on a call if the way to go.
You book the call via our online calendar scheduler tool, and we send you an agenda before the call, so you know what to expect.
We review the monthly reporting procedures from time to time and make improvements to the report we produce based on customer feedback. However, we have an example report available to download taken from a real live website.
We would love to be able to promise that none of these things will happen, but the reality is during the life of your site one or more of these things WILL happen. When it does it is important you have a relationship with a provider that knows how to get things put right quickly and efficiently.
One of the goals of our Website Care Plans is the preventative maintenance of your site. As part of our plans, we install the latest software patches promptly, and we keep several days worth of off-site backups are available for when things do go wrong. When the worse does happen, we will be there to help get things put right, and get your site back up and running as quickly as possible.
